Warning vandals is being edited slowly by Bryce53, and may undergo critical changes while this message remains in place. |
To warn a vandal for vandalizing, spamming, or other disruption use this guide to make it much simpler.
What is a vandal?
The above picture demonstrates an edit made by a vandal. This was an actual edit made on Annoying Orange: Excess Cabbage by a vandal.
A vandal is someone who:
- Makes very disruptive edits.
- Inserts false information.
- Makes spelling/grammatical errors.
- Introduces inappropriate content.
- Insulting other members.
The list basically explains that a vandal is someone who spams, or vandalizes, a page. Warning them will be much easier for the administrators, and will also give them chances to stop.
Vandals are usually IP address (anonymous users). They are nicknamed "A Wikia contributor". To patrol the IPs, please go to this page. Use the "diff" link on an edit to see what they made. IF:
- Their edit was helpful, leave it alone.
- Their edit was unconstructive, undo it, and then warn them (see below).
The advantages of warning
- The vandal might stop, especially if warned with vandalism warns 3 and 4.
- Communication is very important in this wiki.
- If the vandal wasn't warned, he or she might continue.
- If the vandal still vandalizes even after warning four, you may contact an administrator. For the list, please see Administrators.

Warning the vandal
If someone makes a disruptive edit, after undoing it, go to their talk page, and warn them!
Instructions
See the list of templates below for the templates.
The picture above explains what it should look like when finished, before you press "Publish".
- Go to their talk page.
- Start a new section.
- Switch to Source mode.
- Type the month and year for the section name.
- Type "{{subst:vandalismwarn-1}}" or whatever warning number the vandal deserves. You can do {{subst:vandalismwarn-2}}, {{subst:vandalismwarn-3}}, or {{subst:vandalismwarn-4}}. The "subst:" at the beginning is very important. So just putting" "{{vandalismwarn-1}}" isn't acceptable.
- Optionally, you can also put "{{subst:vandalismwarn-1|Apple}}" to reference an article. This would reference the article Apple. But don't use Apple, if the vandal did not vandalize Apple! So if he vandalizes the article Excess Cabbage, put {{subst:vandalismwarn-1|Annoying Orange: Excess Cabbage}}. You MUST put the whole article's name.
- After you reference an article, also give a comment if you want to, for example, "{{subst:vandalismwarn-1|Apple|KNIFE!}}. If you really don't want to tell the vandal "Knife!" and something useful, like "Please stop.", put {{subst:vandalismwarn-1|Apple|Please stop.}}
- Press ENTER, type four tlides "~~~~", and then click "Publish".
The vandal is then successfully warned. For more information for using the template, go to the template pages (list below) and read the documentation.

Template:Vandalismwarn-1 | Thank you for you contributions on the Annoying Orange Wiki. Although everyone is welcome to contribute, at least one of your recent edits did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. We are a growing wiki, with very low contributors and very high vandalism. It would be greatly appreciated if constructive edits were made by you. Thank you. | This template is a first time warning.
Template:Vandalismwarn-2 | Please refrain from making unconstructive edits on the Annoying Orange Wiki. At least one of your recent edits consititute vandalism/spamming and has been reverted. Thank you. | After using the first-warning template, proceed with this template if they vandalize again.
Template:Vandalismwarn-3 | Please stop. If you continue to vandalize/spam the encyclopedia you will be blocked, meaning that you will lose your privilege to make edits to the encyclopedia. Thank you. | After using the second-warning, proceed with this template if they vandalize again. This can also be the first warning if not warned previously, or if the vandalism is severe enough.
Template:Vandalismwarn-4 | THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING FOR YOUR VANDALISM/SPAMMING. If you vandalize/spam again, you WILL be blocked from editing. Thank you. | After using the third-warning, finally warn them by using this template if they continue to do so. This can also be an "only-warning" template if they did extremely severe vandalism. After they continue to vandalize after warning them by using this template, report the user to an administrator. |
Reporting vandals to administrators
After using the vandalismwarn-4 template, and IF they continue, they should lose their privilege to edit the encyclopedia. Report the vandal to an administrator.
