Orange is a main character in all of the Annoying Orange shorts, as well as the show's lead protagonist. He is portrayed by Dane Boedigheimer, the chief investment officer of Gagfilms. Orange has made full appearances in every episode since the start of the series on October 9, 2009, which is also his birthday. Orange has yellow teeth, grey eyes, and a braying laugh. Episodes are characterized by his taunting and annoying his victims-to-be with his adolescent behavior that frequently include burping, pestering, puns, and play-on-words. These actions often infuriate the other character to the point where they start yelling at him to "shut up", only to have Orange warn them of their impending catastrophe: evisceration with a chef's knife, a blender or other types of death like being squashed by some heavy items (like Liam the Leprechaun and Gecko) or eaten by animals such as Squirrel. He has a very famous quote, which comes after someone calls him something that he isn't: "No, I'm not. I'm an orange!". Boedigheimer describes the character as a composite of people in his life, saying "everyone knows somebody like him: They don't listen, they are annoying, and at the same time they are kind of lovable".

Background

Orange is depicted as an exasperating anthropomorphic orange. He is the central character in the series, though not always the main character in some episodes.

Orange is disliked by just about every character who dies, because he constantly heckles them in many ways, such as spitting seeds, mistaking them for other things, and making childish noises. In the episode More Annoying Orange, another orange comes and actually annoys Orange which is in contrast to what it is originally. Not much is known about Orange's past; it was confirmed that he was actually born the day he debuted, meaning today he is four.

It is unknown why Orange gets such joy from annoying people, but one possibility is that any other orange is like that. Another possibility is that he just likes puns and jokes, and doesn't pay attention to how people are being annoyed, according to his friend Passion Fruit.

Personality

Orange is annoying, oppimistic, dim-witted, usually cheerful, and witty  he also loves to crack annoying puns. He almost always blunders things for their color. For example, Orange thought Tomato was Apple because they were both of a red color, and he thought Pumpkin was an orange because he was of an orange color. Although in Previously On, Passion said Orange was colorblind.

In reality, Orange is very kind and innocent at heart, because if he really likes somebody, he will try to think of something that will make them like him a little bit. As revealed in More Annoying Orange, Orange is actually considered very mild for his species, and he is considered the most annoying thing that most of the characters have ever met because they probably have never met an orange before. He probably just tells puns to make him feel better, as he has seen a lot of people get minced up, and gets upset when one of his best friends is knifed. His act of being dim-witted helps him get out of bad situations, as shown in Annoying Orange Saw. If he gets extremely offended or hates somebody, he will be purposely annoying. When he sees someone get killed (usually by evisceration from Knife), he will usually watch in horror and sometimes scream, but if the person is someone he loathes, he will laugh at their disbursement.

Sometimes it happens that Orange demonstrates his few learning by mistaking a fruit for another and continuing to say that a fruit is another like it happened to Pumpkin (Orange thought it was another tremendous orange). Orange's innocent and playful antics have garnered him both a lot of friends and rivals.

Biography

Orange was put onto the counter sometime before the series, and had been annoying Apple for some time before the first episode was recorded. He has met oodles of fruits and vegetables, and usually infuriates them, and some survive (much to their horror). He is friends with Pear but in The High Fructose Adventures of Annoying Orange, Pear denies it, even though he knows it's true.

Later in the series, he meets Passion Fruit, who he has some feelings for, and Passion thinks of him as a friend most of the time. At one point, Jigsaw attempted to make Orange into a death trap (he wanted Orange to annoy Marshmallow to death). As anyone could expect, this plan failed as Marshmallow was annoying as well.

Orange is a major part in the kitchen as seen in Wishful Thinking because if Orange didn't exist, Pear wouldn't know how to talk to other fruits and vegetables, Midget Apple of injured Grapefruit, and Marshmallow would have been killed by hot chocolate. He currently lives in the kitchen and shares counter space with Orange, Pear, and Passion Fruit (and in some episodes with Grapefruit).

Extra Life Orange

A second Orange representing an extra life when Orange switched places with Pac-Man in Pacmania.

Future Orange

The future version of Orange, who bears a resemblance to Darth Vader. In Back to the Fruiture, Evil Orange (a version of Orange from an alternate timeline) convinced Orange that his future self was actually an evil space warlord. Future Orange possesses telekinesis, meaning that he can move objects with his mind.

Orange Potter

In Orange Potter and the Deathly Apple, a parody of Harry Potter, Orange appeared as a parody of the title character.

Relationships

Pear

Main article: Pear

Pear is Orange's best friend. Although constantly annoyed by Orange, Pear has later calmed down and have been very good friends with Orange. Previously, Pear started out with suicidal thoughts. Although sometimes Pear talks some sense into him.

Passion Fruit

Main article: Passion Fruit

Passion Fruit is Orange's good friend, and love interest. Orange tries to deny that he really loves Passion, as seen in The Sitcom. Passion Fruit can get mad at Orange if he annoys her by cracking puns. She did not appear in the anniversary of Orange's first birthday; the reason is Pear and the gang don't know Orange loves her. Orange still cares about Passion. In The High Fructose Adventures, Passion usually lets orange do things or comments and tells him what he can do.

Midget Apple

Midget Apple befriended Orange in Crabapple. He is a friend of Orange, Pear, Marshmallow, and Passion Fruit, but simply hates being called Midget Apple. Orange often gets on his nerve from the usual "little apple" quote, although they do share many good times and adventures with each other. Orange is the exact reason Midget apple wants to be big. More people besides Orange call him a midget.

Marshmallow

Orange befriended Marshmallow in Annoying Saw 2. He doesn't show any signs of being angry at Orange. Orange has been known to care about Marshmallow's well being. It is shown there best friends because orange teaches him how to do the tongue noise.

Apple

Apple appears in the TV show, and is smart, but the friends show to deny him, and Orange loves annoying him. As seen in Meet the oranges, Orange sometimes copies everything apple says, and the gang cheers. It is also shown orange doesn't see him as a friend, more of an apple. Apple also somehow always comes back, or edleast another Apple does. He first appeared when Orange was annoying him in The Annoying Orange.

Mrs. Orange

She is Orange's mother, first seen in Mommy and me, recently seen in Meet the oranges. She has red hair, and sounds  identical to orange, because they're both played by Danboe.

Mr. Orange

He only appeared in Meet the oranges, and is shown to be just like orange, but really crazy. He has a small amount of  hair, and looks a little old. It's possible he and his wife, are old, but he shows to like a grandpa, even though Orange doesn't have children.  It's possible that he is older than his wife (probably so), or he and his wife just had Orange to late.

Tongue noise

To make this famous tongue noise, Orange hangs his tongue on his left side on his mouth and bites down on it. He sometimes goes on the right side. Other characters, like Marshmallow, Midget Apple, and Pear also have a tongue sound, too, but Orange is famous for his as it is annoying to almost everyone. The only character who had a more annoying tongue sound than Orange is Zoom, and when Orange drank Zoom's liquid, Orange's tongue sound began to be similar to Zoom's; much more aggravating.

Trivia

• In this universe, Oranges are considered the most annoying fruits and Orange is actually very mild for his species.^[1]
• It is possible Marshmallow could be one of his best friends by the fact they are both annoying and that Orange teaches him how to do the tongue sound.
• Continuity error: In Previously On it is revealed that Orange is colorblind. In other episodes however, he has stated that some character's are red, it is unknown how this is possible. It is possible at one point he became color blind, and Passion was the only one who actually knew it.
• He doesn't know what a joke is.
• He had an amnesia once, but he was cured by Midget Apple.
• In 2013, he will turn four years old.
• He has an evil twin brother who wants to destroy the camera.
